2010 Formula BMW Pacific champion Richard Bradley has agreed a new contract with PETRONAS Team TOM’S for the 2012 Japanese Formula 3 season. Richard made his debut with the team last year in his first year of Formula 3 and finished the championship in fifth place, with two podiums.  Richard then joined the team for the Macau Grand Prix and finished 9^th on his debut round the daunting 6.2 km Guia street circuit.

Expectations are high after Richards performances last season. Richard commented “I am very happy to be rejoining TOM’S for the 2012 season. With the experience gained last year and with proper preparation I believe we can be at the front fighting for victories and the championship. I also believe the engineering capability of the team will be a massive attribute in getting the most out of the new car and I am very much looking forward to the first round at Suzuka in April!”

Although it was difficult year for him last year but we believe he has learnt a lot and enjoyed building his experience in various aspects. Valencia Test December 2011

The Macau Grand Prix in November marked the last race of the 2011 season for Richard. However preparation for the 2012 season began almost immediately afterward with a 2 day test at the Valencia Ricardo Tormo circuit in Spain in the middle of December. The Spanish Moto GP circuit is a great place to test during the winter months due to the mild temperatures compared to circuits in the UK and Japan at that time of year.

Richard was doing the test with Carlin motorsport, the team Richard contested the 2011 Grand Prix De Pau with in May. Richard missed the first 2 days of the test  but performed very well on his first day in a car which was very different to his usual Japanese spec car. Once he got into the rhythm of the circuit.Richard was very fast on older tyres  He had some work to do on the new tyres though as the British Championship spec Cooper tyres require a very different technique to the Japanese Yokohama tyres Richard is used to.

There were fewer drivers on day 2 so this was  a perfect opportunity for Richard to work on the technique required with the new Cooper tyres.and he was much quicker than he had been on day 1.

Richard felt that this was a very useful test. He  made significant improvements as he became familiar with the tyre , the car and the circuit. All of this experience will be useful going into next year.

Richard made his debut in the 58^th running of the Macau Grand Prix on the weekend of the 20^th November. This would be the first time he has competed in this famous race. 18 out of the 24 current formula one drivers have raced here.

Thursday started in difficult conditions as heavy rain greeted the drivers for practice. Richard did well to stay out of crashes in a session disrupted by many red flags and accidents to learn the 28 corner 6.2 km long street circuit. The rain stayed until Friday when qualifying took place. Richard unfortunately had some bad luck with a car crashing in front of him on his timed lap and with the road blocked Richard had no choice but to hit the other driver, damaging the car too much to continue. This meant that Richard would start in 24^th place for the 10 lap qualifying race.

The qualifying race which would determine the grid for Sundays main race was run over 10 laps on Saturday afternoon. Richard made a great start to vault up into the top 20 instantly. Unfortunately an incident occurred with another driver early on and Richard was forced out of the race and would therefore start the main race from 25^th.

After a dramatic start to the 58^th Macau Grand Prix with a car stalling on the grid Richard made up a few positions before the safety car was brought out for the first time. From there he made his way up into the top 10 finishing in an eventual 9^th place from 25^th on the grid after 15 laps of racing.

The main aim of learning the track for next year was accomplished with a good result to follow and Richard will be back next year with the aim of winning. A big thank you goes out to TOM’S and Richards personal sponsor for the weekend, In Sense.

Orchard Road was closed from 3 to 6pm last Sunday for Red Bull Speed Street Singapore, where retired Formula 1 racer David Coulthard drove the Red Bull F1 car down the stretch from ION Orchard to Heeren, splitting the ear drums of many.

Richard Bradley was very privileged to have driven the Infiniti FX safety car, which was the first to appear in the showcase, sweeping the road and checking that all is clear before David Coulthard emerges.

Going as fast as 190 kilometres per hour, Richard had an awesome time and would like to thank everyone for their support!

At the fifth and last round of the Asian Karting Open Championship (AKOC), Richard Bradley finished second in the pre-final and third in the final of the Formula 125 Senior Open category.

It wasn’t such a great weekend as his engine went bust, but he still managed to get his kart across the finish line.

Although Richard only participated in the first round in The Philippines (which he won and scored loads of points), another round in Macau (where he suffered great injuries after crashing and scored pathetic points) and this final round in Macau again, he still finished in overall third place.

Karting is a fantastic way to keep in shape and maintain racecraft during in-season between-race periods!

Formula BMW Pacific Championship 2010, Round 13 Race Report

Singapore, 31 October 2010 – RICHARD Bradley of Singapore clinched the 2010 Formula BMW Pacific Drivers’ Championship and Rookie Cup titles after winning Round 13 at the Okayama International Circuit. Having led the championship right from the start, the 19-year-old Eurasia Motorsport driver never lost his hold on the lead and firmly sealed the 2010 season with one more race in Japan this weekend and the season finale at the 57th Macau Grand Prix in three weeks.

Bradley caught up to second place after starting in fourth place on the grid and went in hot pursuit of race leader Yuichi Nakayama, who qualified in pole position. Although Nakayama crossed the finish line first, the win was awarded to Bradley as Nakayama was faulted for a technical infringement.

Extending his lead to 62 points, Bradley convincingly clinched the championship as only 41 points are left on offer for the remainder of the season. Before this race, the only other driver in contention for both titles was Oscar Tunjo of Columbia.

“It’s an amazing feeling and I’m thrilled to have won the championship. Now there’s no pressure on me for the last two races and I can finally have a proper aggressive race without worrying about the consequences. Consistency was key throughout this season and I have the team to thank for this great learning process,” said a triumphant Bradley.

Bradley started his rookie single-seater season with a bang when he clinched back-to-back victories in Rounds 1 and 2 of the Formula BMW Pacific Championship which were held as support races to the Formula 1 Petronas Malaysian Grand Prix. Thereafter he gained five more victories over the next four race meetings, winning the overall championship before the end of the season.

Preview – Rounds 13 & 14, Okayama International Circuit, Japan

Okayama, Japan –With just three Formula BMW Pacific races remaining, the pressure is on the region’s premier junior single-seater drivers to earn valuable championship points in the penultimate meeting in support of the FIA World Touring Car Championship at the Okayama International Circuit from October 29-31.

Leading the charge in both the Drivers Classification and Rookie Cup is Richard Bradley (SIN/19/Eurasia Motorsport) who last month took his seventh win of the season at his home circuit in support of the 2010 FORMULA 1 SINGTEL SINGAPORE GRAND PRIX.

Bradley’s 55-point lead makes him all but unreachable and only Colombian Oscar Tunjo (Meritus) is in a position to challenge for the titles. Tunjo, however, will arrive in Okayama buoyed by the momentum of having taken his maiden victory in Round 12 in Singapore.

Behind Bradley and Tunjo lies Formula BMW Pacific Junior Jordan Oon (AUS/20/E-Rain Racing), whose challenging weekend in Singapore eliminated him from championship contention. Still, expect Oon to be on form in Okayama, where all but two of the 23-strong field will be racing on the 3.7 km circuit for the first time.

Fourth in the Drivers Classification is Calvin Wong (MAS/18/PETRONAS Mofaz Racing), one of the two drivers who will be able to use his experience in Okayama in 2009 to his advantage. Rounding out the top five is Rookie Nabil Jeffri (MAS/16/Eurasia Motorsport).

As the promising young drivers take the first step in their single-seater careers, they will no doubt aspire to follow in the footsteps of 2006 Formula BMW Junior Daniel Ricciardo who this year became the first graduate of the Asian series to reach Formula 1 when he was signed as Red Bull’s test and reserve driver. While the series regulars will battle it out for the coveted podium positions, guest drivers will add to the exciting mix. Formula BMW Pacific 2010 Report, Rounds 11 & 12

Singapore, 27 September 2010 – IT was a weekend of controversy within the Formula BMW Pacific camp with post-race penalties altering the initial results, but championship leader Richard Bradley pulls ahead neatly with a 55-point stronghold over the next driver for both the Drivers’ Championship and the Rookie Cup. At his first ever street race experience, the 19-year-old Eurasia Motorsport driver clinched a win in Round 11 on Saturday and a podium finish in third place for Round 12 on Sunday. With only three races to go in Japan next month and Macau in November, Bradley is feeling confident about the championship.

Qualifying was special as Bradley raced under the lights on Friday night. A mistake during his fastest lap cost him pole position, placing him in second. Bradley then started from second place on the grid for Round 11 on Saturday afternoon. He took the lead from Turn 7 in the first lap and led for most of the race until the final lap when Formula BMW Europe guest driver Daniil Kvyat of Eurointernational hit him from behind. Kvyat took the chequered flag but was subsequently penalised for the move by the stewards, awarding Bradley the win. Regardless, as guest drivers are not entitled to score points, Bradley scored full points for Round 11 with an additional point for qualifying.

“Qualifying was frustrating as I made an error on my fastest lap but nonetheless it was a good solid result and it felt great winning my first ever street race. I’m happy with my performance and it’s a fantastic result for the championship,” said Bradley.

The second race on Sunday afternoon was an incident-filled one as drivers knocked into each other and took each other out. Bradley remained calm amid the mayhem and focused on the championship. He crossed the finish line in fourth but was boosted to third place after the initial race winner received a post-race penalty.

“The objective was to focus on the championship; hence I took a conservative approach and didn’t want to risk messing anything up. I took it easy and it was a true Sunday drive for me. I even asked my engineer for popcorn over the radio!” Bradley added.

Singapore, 26 September 2010 – IN his first ever race on a street circuit, Formula BMW Pacific championship leader Richard Bradley clinched the win in a most intense and controversial of battles. Although the 19-year-old Eurasia Motorsport driver crossed the finish line in second place, the results were reversed after an investigation by the stewards and Bradley was awarded the win. With a lead of 57 points in the Drivers’ Championship and Rookie Cup, Bradley needs to extend his lead to 64 points ahead of his closest rival in this afternoon’s race to clinch both titles.

Having started in second place, Bradley took the lead from Turn 7 in the first lap and led for most of the race until the final lap when Formula BMW Europe guest driver Daniil Kvyat of Eurointernational hit him from behind. Kvyat took the chequered flag but was subsequently penalised for the move by the stewards, giving Bradley the win.

Formula BMW Pacific Championship 2010, Rounds 7 – 10

Singapore, 7 September 2010 – Drivers’ Championship and Rookie Cup leader Richard Bradley of Singapore surges ahead with a 40-point lead after winning all but one race at Rounds 7 to 10 of the Formula BMW Pacific series over the weekend. The 19-year-old Briton had to retire from the race whilst in the lead of Round 9 when his engine failed soon after the start. Held at the 2.82-kilometre Guangdong International Circuit in China as part of the Hong Kong Autosport Challenge, it was a most gratifying weekend for Bradley after the Series’ four-month hiatus.

“I’m feeling very happy of course; although it was a difficult weekend. We were on the backfoot compared to the other teams as we did not do any running on the circuit. Some of our competitors were able to do more testing here than we did and it didn’t help that my engine broke. Fortunately, we managed to overcome the problems faced and it’s a great feeling to be back at the top of the podium again,” said Bradley.

Qualifying on Friday afternoon took place after heavy showers had passed. The wet track was tricky, causing incidents between drivers that eventually brought out the red flag and shortened the session. This meant limited time for the 16 drivers to do a clean lap and Bradley qualified in second place.

Undeterred, Bradley overtook the pole-sitter by the first corner of Round 7. In the heavy torrents of rain, he never looked back as he led all the way to take the chequered flag first, 5.128 seconds before the next driver.

The rain let up for Round 8 but the track was still damp. Choosing to go on slicks, Bradley grabbed the lead at turn three and pulled ahead of the field. But an incident between other drivers caused a Safety Car period at the end of lap 6, reducing the gap that Bradley had built. With just two more laps remaining, Bradley worked hard and built up the pace again to finish the race first.

Round 9 was unfortunate for Bradley as engine problems on the opening lap forced early retirement from the race for him. He made up for it in Round 10 by getting a good start from pole position and leading to the end. However, the new engine needed more running time before it reaches its peak; hence Bradley had to deal with pressure from the driver behind him who eventually finished just 0.173 second after.

With three race wins from the weekend, Bradley has strengthened his lead in the Drivers’ Championship and Rookie Cup and now leads by 40 points. “We had a good chance at winning all four races, but the weekend gave me a lot of confidence going into the remainder of the championship and I can’t wait to race in Singapore next!” Bradley added.

The 2010 Formula BMW Pacific series resumes on the streets of Singapore for Rounds 9 and 10 in support of the 2010 FORMULA 1 SINGTEL SINGAPORE GRAND PRIX at the Marina Bay Circuit on September 24 – 26.

Singapore, 25 July 2010 – Formula BMW Pacific racing driver and multiple British kart racing champion Richard Bradley has been selected to be the ambassador for F1 in Schools in Singapore. At the Singapore F1 in Schools Technology Challenge 2010 Finals to be held on 28 July 2010, Bradley will be sharing his secrets to success and the benefits of motorsports at an exclusive guest speaker session.

Members of the public are invited to come down for the event and for an opportunity to interact and meet with Bradley. Bradley will also be participating in an invitational race with a miniature gas-powered F1 car against Singapore Motor Sport Association’s President Tan Teng Lip.

Competing in the Formula BMW Pacific Championship this season, Bradley is currently leading the Drivers’ Championship and Rookie Cup. Making the transition from racing karts to single-seaters when he moved to Singapore at the end of last year, Bradley last raced in a kart last November. Then in June, he made a successful comeback in karting when he won the opening round of the Asian Open Karting Championship in The Philippines.

He added, “There’s more to motorsports than just being a driver. The research, design and technology behind a race car require a committed team of engineers and mechanics as well. Having a qualification in motorsports engineering, I hope to raise awareness and interest of the technical side of motorsports.”

Bradley will be racing across the streets of Singapore at Marina Bay when the Formula BMW Pacific Championship comes in September as a support race to the Formula 1 SingTel Singapore Grand Prix.

Open to the public, the F1 in Schools Technology Challenge 2010 Finals for Singapore will take place on 28 July 2010 at Ngee Ann Polytechnic. Of the 800 over students that have been trained by F1 in Schools Pte Ltd over the last six months, 48 teams across 23 primary and secondary schools will compete for the prestigious opportunity to represent Singapore at the F1 in Schools World Championship 2011 in Abu Dhabi next year.

In addition, Singapore has been granted the honour this year to host the 6^th F1 in Schools World Championship 2010 where the 2009 national champions of the various F1 in Schools competitions around the globe will congregate for the ultimate challenge. McLaren Mercedes F1 team driver Jenson Button has been invited as the special guest for the F1 in Schools World Championship 2010 in September.

F1 in Schools is a global multi-disciplinary challenge where teams of students aged nine to 19 deploy CAD (Computer Aided Design)/CAM (Computer Aided Manufacture) software to collaborate, design, analyse, manufacture, test and race miniature gas-powered balsa wood F1 cars.

Teams who have gone through the F1 in Schools training programme will compete at the F1 in Schools Technology Challenge finals where the national champion will then represent the country at the F1 in Schools World Championship. F1 in Schools is active in 30 countries worldwide and every year the national champions of the various countries meet to vie for the Bernie Ecclestone F1 in Schools World Championship Trophy. Singapore, 14 July 2010 – Following a victory from the first round, multiple British kart racing champion Richard Bradley was determined for a similar performance in the Formula 125 Senior Open category at the second round of Asian Karting Open Championship (AKOC) 2010. Held at Kartodromo De Coloane in Macau, Bradley unfortunately had a most frustrating weekend where he encountered a major accident amidst incidents, but his perseverance to the end was evident as he confidently pursued victory.

With 33 drivers on the grid, there was a lot of traffic during the timed qualifying sessions and setting a pole position time would be a challenge. Eventually, Bradley clocked a competitive timing and decided to return to the pits early so as to conserve his tyres.

Having qualified in second place, Bradley won two out of the three rounds of heats but along with two other drivers, was given a 10-second penalty for being out of position at the start of Heat 2. That moved him down the scoreboard from first place to 11th. Nonetheless, his second place finishing in Heat 3 gave him a combined result of second place on the pre-final starting grid.

The pre-final got off to a great start and Bradley quickly took the lead by Turn 3 in the first lap. As he started to pull away, another driver attempted a desperate lunge at Bradley that took both of them off the track. Bradley restarted his kart and rejoined the race, but as he was coming back through traffic, a backmarker clipped the back of his kart and sent it flipping.

“I felt contact at the rear and then I saw the sky. Immediately I braced myself as the kart flipped. I hit the ground face first along with my elbows and hands, and the kart was on top of me. It kept rolling with my leg trapped within and I got dragged along with it,” said Bradley as he described the incident.

“I didn’t feel any pain then and all I wanted to do was get my kart back on track. Unfortunately, the kart was bent and I was forced to retire from the race. Only when the adrenalin ceased then I began to feel the hurt,” he added.

After some painkillers and bandages for the swellings, Bradley started the final near the back of the grid. He overtook many and caught up to 12th place in less than 10 laps of the 25-lap race. But the kart was too damaged from the earlier accident so he had to retire from the race again.

“It was a frustrating weekend because clearly we had the pace for the same results as in Round 1. My pre-final was ruined when I got hit by another driver whilst I was in the lead. I would have recovered from that but I got hit again. I was happy to be able to start the final even though I was bandaged and in a lot of pain,” Bradley said about the weekend.

“On a brighter note, the main objective of keeping sharp was achieved and our pace was competitive. There was a high chance of winning, but that’s racing. I look forward to my next driving experience!”

Based in Singapore, Bradley moved over to make the transition from karts to formula cars with a debut single-seater racing season at this year’s Formula BMW Pacific Championship series.

Bradley last raced a kart last November at the WSK International Series when he was a driver for the Maddox works team. The former Super KF (Karting Formula 1) driver is reunited with a Maddox kart for AKOC.

During the three-month break in the 2010 Formula BMW Pacific Championship, current Drivers’ Championship and Rookie Cup leader Bradley made a successful comeback in karting when he won Round 1 of AKOC at Carmona Circuit in The Philippines last month. He clinched top spot for both timed qualifying sessions, all three heats as well as the pre-final and the final, to claim the title.

After six of 15 rounds of the 2010 Formula BMW Pacific Championship, Bradley holds a lead of 34 points ahead of the next driver in the Drivers’ Championship and is also leading the Rookies’ Cup. The next round of Formula BMW Pacific will take place at the end of August at South Korea’s all-new Formula 1 international circuit.

RETURNING KART RACING CHAMPION BRADLEY MAKES A PERFECT COMEBACK

Singapore, 15 June 2010 – Current Formula BMW Pacific Championship Drivers’ Championship and Rookie Cup leader Richard Bradley made a comeback in kart racing over the weekend at the opening round of the Asian Karting Open Championship (AKOC) 2010 in The Philippines. The former multiple British kart racing champion put up an outstanding performance as he dominated the field of 25 drivers in the Formula 125 Senior Open category. 18-year-old Bradley clinched the top spots for both timed qualifying sessions, all three heats as well as the pre-final and the final, to claim the title.

“The weekend went very smoothly, as I hoped it would. Returning to racing in karts felt like meeting an old friend whom I hadn’t seen in a long time! I was a little rusty at the beginning, but I picked it back up and got on the pace quickly,” said Bradley.

Based in Singapore, Bradley moved over to make the transition from karts to formula cars with a debut single-seater racing season at this year’s Formula BMW Pacific Championship series. During the three-month break of the FBMW Pacific Championship, he decided to reignite his love for karting by participating in AKOC.

He added, “I feel fantastic about the win and it’s a great confidence booster to win in karts again, along with the other wins I had this year in cars. This is my first time racing in AKOC and in The Philippines, and the atmosphere, the tyres, the drivers are new to me. However, the drivers are of good quality and I really enjoyed myself.”

Kuala Lumpur, 3 April 2010 - Rookie Richard Bradley (18/SIN/Eurasia Motorsport) scored an emphatic win in the opening round of the Formula BMW Pacific 2010 season at Malaysia’s Sepang International Circuit today, with a faultless run from pole to chequered flag.

The UK-born Singapore driver got a superb start off the line, thanks to a ‘secret’ starting technique he had practiced only once, and never looked back, building up a comfortable lead at the front and controlling the race for the full 10 laps.

Formula BMW Junior and guest driver Carlos Sainz Junior (15/ESP/Eurointernational) also didn’t put a wheel wrong on the way to second place in his first Formula BMW race, but was never able to seriously challenge Bradley. (more…)

Kuala Lumpur, 3 April 2010 – Singapore racing driver Richard Bradley (18/Eurasia Motorsport) threw down the gauntlet to the record, 25-strong Formula BMW Pacific field today taking pole position for the opening races of the 2010 season, and setting the fastest time ever recorded in an official session on the Kuala Lumpur circuit.

Ace karter, Richard Bradley, has signed for the 2010 F.BMW season. Based in Singapore, eighteen year old Bradley has starred at British, European and World level karting and is expected to be competitive in next year’s championship.

Bradley was first in the 2008 KF1 British Open Championship and competitive at World level in this year’s SKF1 Series. He resides in Singapore which is a perfect base from which to compete in the Formula BMW Pacific Series. Testing for next season begins this December at the Sepang F1 Circuit Malaysia.

“We are really happy to welcome Richard to the team and his karting results demonstrate he is a very talented young driver and we are excited at the prospect of running him in the F.BMW Pacific championship next year” stated Mark Goddard of Eurasia Motorsport.

Bradley will race alongside already confirmed Australian, Duvashen Padayachee, who will also take part in a three day test at Sepang on December 15-17th. Eurasia Motorsport has a third driver confirmed for 2010, he will be named very soon, and he will be taking part in the same test.

“We have three of our four cars filled for 2010 already which bodes well for next year’s championship which we are sure will be even better than 2009 which was the best F.BMW series yet in the region, in terms of both numbers and competitiveness.” remarked Goddard.
