Comeback Karting Champion Bradley Continues His Pursuit of Victory

For Immediate Release

Singapore, 6 July 2010 – During the three-month break in the 2010 Formula BMW Pacific Championship, current Drivers’ Championship and Rookie Cup leader Richard Bradley made a successful comeback in kart racing at the opening round of the Asian Karting Open Championship (AKOC) 2010 last month. The former multiple British kart racing champion is looking for a similar performance in the Formula 125 Senior Open category this weekend as he heads up for Round 2 of AKOC at Kartodromo De Coloane in Macau.

At Round 1 of AKOC at Carmona Circuit in The Philippines, 18-year-old Bradley clinched top spot for both timed qualifying sessions, all three heats as well as the pre-final and the final, to claim the title. Whilst Carmona Circuit was new to Bradley, Kartodromo De Coloane in Macau is not as he has raced there two times previously: the CIK-FIA Asia Pacific KF1 Championship in 2008 and the CIK-FIA Super KF1 World Karting Championship in 2009.

“For Macau this weekend, I have less of a disadvantage than I did at The Philippines as this will be my third time racing there. I last raced there in October 2009 and I remember it as a very interesting track with lots of blind corners,” said Bradley.

He added, “I hope to do as well as I did in the first round. The purpose of returning to kart racing is primarily to keep fit and to remain sharp. Beyond that I will perform as best as I can.”

Based in Singapore, Bradley moved over to make the transition from karts to formula cars with a debut single-seater racing season at this year’s Formula BMW Pacific Championship series.

Bradley last raced a kart last November at the WSK International Series when he was a driver for the Maddox works team. The former Super KF (Karting Formula 1) driver is reunited with a Maddox kart for AKOC.

After six of 15 rounds of the 2010 Formula BMW Pacific Championship, Bradley holds a lead of 34 points ahead of the next driver in the Drivers’ Championship and is also leading the Rookies’ Cup. The next round of Formula BMW Pacific will take place at the end of August at South Korea’s all-new Formula 1 international circuit.
